What is Shine?

Shine is a ministry for the children of Saylorville Church.

Who is it for?

Kids 2 ½ years through 5th grade.

Where does it meet?

All Shine classes meet downstairs in age-graded classrooms.

When does it meet?

Sunday evening during the 5:30pm Education Hour.

Why?

We desire to see this ministry produce children who are learning His Word, trusting Christ, and submitting to His Lordship.

What do you teach?

2 ½ through 3 years
The 2 ½-3 year olds meet together in a class that helps transition them from nursery to the Shine preschool classes. In their class they play, do a craft, have a snack, participate in group activities that get them engaged in the lesson and learn important truths about who God is through curriculum by David C Cook.

4 years through 5th Grade
The curriculum for Shine is called Generations of Grace (GOG). Generations of Grace is based on God’s Word and designed to magnify God by studying His character in the pages of Scripture. We can better understand who He is and how we are to respond to Him by studying how His redemptive plan has unfolded and how He has used men to accomplish His purposes.

Many curricula claim to teach the Bible and do refer to verses at times but are really just moral lessons extrapolated from scripture. GOG is designed to magnify God by studying His character in the pages of Scripture. It’s not just a Bible story, the kids are learning about who God is and what He has done through the books of the Bible in a way that builds on top of one another rather than different stories here and there.

Over a three-year period, this curriculum covers the Old Testament historical books, the life of Christ, and lessons from Acts and Revelation. Every week, children in each age range learn from the same passage of Scripture in a way that is appropriate for their respective age levels. We call this a “unified curriculum.” A unified curriculum enables families to discuss one passage together each week, reinforcing the lesson that children have learned in their classes.
