Membership class is the place to find out what Saylorville Baptist Church is all about and what it takes to become a member. During the class we cover things like church history, what we believe, finances, ministries and staff. Coming to class doesn’t automatically make you a member, but in order to become a member you must attend membership class. Class will be Wednesday, February 1st at 6:30pm in the Coffee Cove area. The class will last for 3 hours. Pie and beverages will be provided.

Anticipation. We all virtually live our lives by it. We anticipate seeing a friend, getting off work, an upcoming birthday, a vacation get-a-way, that first cup of coffee in the morning, and….Christmas. If you were told God Himself was coming to visit, what kind of anticipation might build up in you? One man was told exactly that! Join us to discover the joy he experienced when he met Jesus and his anticipation was fulfilled.

There is a service Christmas Eve at 5:30pm and Christmas morning at 8:30am. Both services will be identical. The 8:30am service is the only service on Christmas day.

Ladies, join us for Rejoice on Saturday, December 3rd at 5:30pm at Saylorville Baptist Church. Rejoice is an evening filled with dinner, music and sharing as we rejoice in the work of our Savior.

Retreat is $35 per person – Please prepay at the table in the coffee cove
Golf is $35 per person and includes 18 holes, cart and lunch. – Please prepay at the table in the coffee cove

Please bring your own bedding, pillow and towel. You can bring a tent to sleep in but the cost is still the same. There will be showers available to use and are covered in the retreat cost.
If you would like to stay in a hotel we have 10 rooms blocked off in Clear Lake for our retreat. Each room has 1 queen bed and is $65 plus tax. Please talk to Abe Miller if you are interested in staying in the hotel.

Ladies Night/Guys Night Out

The guys will be eating at the church with smoked meat from Stu and hearing from several of our men missionaries. Ladies, you will be hearing from several of the missionary wives at this dinner at The Tournament Club of Iowa. There are three dinner options to choose from when you sign up listed below. Sign up and pay Sunday between the morning services in the Coffee Cove. Childcare will be provided for those attending.

The Arnie – tea and lemonade marinated chicken breast on cracked wheat, peppered bacon, swiss cheese and avocado mayonnaise with sweet potato fries
Rice Bowl (chicken or beef) – stir fry vegetables with a lemongrass sesame sauce, choice of chicken or beef served with steamed jasmine rice
Tournament Dip – house roasted prime rib shaved and bathed in herbed au jus on ciabatta hoagie with sauteed onions and maytag white cheddar with steak fries

The annual Backyard BBQ & Car Show will be held June 25th on the south lawn of Saylorville Baptist Church. It will include free food, games and car show. The car show starts at 11:00am, a free lunch is at 12:00pm and awards will be handed out at 2:00pm. All neighbors, friends and family are welcome! All collected items will be distributed during the Wee Ones Care and Share event Saturday, July 30th, 2011 from 10:00am to 3:00pm at Saylorville Baptist Church to mothers and children in need of essential maternity and baby items. Through this program, we hope to share God’s love for them and help provide support.

Vacation Bible School is a week long event that teaches the Bible to kids through music, teaching, games and skits. It will be held Sunday, June 5th through Thursday, June 9th from 6pm-8:30pm at the church. Vacation Bible School is for children who’ve completed Kindergarten through 5th Grade.

You can still bring your kids to the remaining nights from 6:00-8:30pm. Just register at the south entrance under the blue tent.

Join us on Easter Sunday, April 24th, 2011 as we celebrate Easter, the happiest day on the calendar! This year we will be having two morning services with a free continental breakfast before both services. Times and details are listed below. Invite your friends and family. Hope to see you then!

Parking Information

Due to parking issues we will be shuttling people from other parking lots. These include Woodland Hills East Parking Lot & the VFW’s West Parking Lot. Please see the map below for more details. We want to make parking as easy and simple as possible. We will have many volunteers to help you park and direct you to the breakfast and worship time. Parking for seniors and guests will be available in all our main lots.

Bridges is a curriculum developed by Crescent Project that is meant to introduce Christians to Islam and pave the way for building relationships with the Muslims in your community.

Why Bridges?
Christians have responded to Muslims in many ways, but all too often, without the compassion that characterized Jesus. Bridges seeks to replace fear and intimidation with love and gentle boldness, reshaping the way Christians view and respond to their Muslim neighbors.

Bridges is one-of-a-kind because it focuses on similarities, not differences. Christianity and Islam are not the same, but they are similar. You can learn how to take similar concepts in Christianity and Islam, and build a bridge.

Bridges meets you where you are. The teaching found in Bridges is easy to understand even if you don’t have much prior knowledge of Islam. The material is also valuable to those seeking to build on what they already know about Muslims.

Bridges is practical and biblical. Bridges allows you to gain biblical insight into Islamic history and Muslim beliefs, while providing useful next steps and stories that help you put the teaching into practice.

This class will be a great tool for all, as the Muslim population continues to increase not only world wide but right here in the Des Moines metro. Bridges will especially benefit those who work with Wee Ones and the Togo Hospital project. Through the Bridges course we will put off the many misconceptions we have of Islam and learn how to build relationships with the many Muslims in our area. Please plan to join us for a great time of learning and fellowship!
